MENU PLANNING FOR EARLY YEARS PROGRAMS

Facilitated By: Ginette Blake, Registered Dietitian, MLHU & Kelly Ferguson, Registered Dietitian, SWPH

Updated child care menu planning guidelines (2024) were created to support child care settings in meeting the nutrition guidelines of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA). These guidelines are referenced in Ontario Ministry of Education Child Care Centre and Home Child Care Licensing Manuals.

This interactive session is intended to provide rationale and practical tips for cooks and dietary planners who plan menus and prepare food for children in their care in both centres and home child care settings. This session will allow for sharing of tips and ideas among the participants.

Kelly Ferguson (she/her) is a Registered Dietician at Southwestern Public Health. She works to help children learn to enjoy and explore food through cooking, gardening, and food-neutral teaching. Kelly enjoys chasing after her 1-year-old, ballroom dancing, and summer cottage and pool getaways.

Ginette Blake (she/her) is a Registered Dietician at Middlesex-London Health Unit who is passionate about our food system and how food impacts the health of our children and our planet.

While we welcome participation from outside of the Early Years sector, please note these learning opportunities are intended for early years professionals and the early years lens will be emphasized.
